What if a student must leave campus?

Parents/guardians must come to the high school office and sign the student out.

Only legally emancipated students, with paperwork substantiating the emancipation on file with the principal, may sign themselves out.

Students returning to campus after having signed out must sign back in upon return.

Students who become ill at school may not leave campus until the office staff gives them clearance to do so.

If an early dismissal for the school is scheduled, we will notify students and parents in advance.

Does Gila Bend School District provide bus transportation to its students?

Yes, we do provide bus transportation. Each student who rides the school bus is entitled to a safe and comfortable ride to and from school. Riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right, granted to students under conditions set forth by the Governing Board and the regulations of the State of Arizona Department of Transportation. Violation of any rule may result in suspension of riding privileges and restitution of damages if any are involved.

Does the school district allow visitors on the school campuses?

We do allow guests on campus when school is in session ONLY with prior approval from the administration. Parents are always welcome, but we ask that you check in with the office before proceeding.

What is the district dress policy?

Please see the "Dress Code" button in the menu bar at the top of our site.

What are district attendance policies?

A student may make up any missed work due to unexcused absences or truancies with teacher and/or administrative approval only.

Any student with eleven (11) or more excused or unexcused absences during a semester could, at the discretion of the teacher and administration, receive no credit for the course that semester.

Any student with ten (10) or more unexcused consecutive absences in all classes, may, at the discretion of the administration, be withdrawn from school.

Please see the High School Student Handbook and the Elementary Student Handbook for guidelines regarding what constitutes an "excused" or "unexcused" absence or tardy and for the consequences of each.

What is the "Good Neighbor" policy?

The district extends school rules and other reasonable expectations for student behavior to include student conduct while going to and from school and while off campus during the normal school day. This includes the responsibility to observe traffic and pedestrian laws and the responsibility to act as a good neighbor, respecting the safety, welfare, and property of others during lunch hour and released periods. The sidewalks and lawns of our neighbors whose homes are near campus are off limits to Gila Bend students. Failure to act as a good neighbor within the school community may result in disciplinary action.

What are the admission requirements to attend community colleges in Arizona?

There are several community colleges in Arizona. Courses vary from technical skills and trades culminating with “certified status” to academic studies terminating with associate degrees and/or “transfer” courses comparable to two years at a four-year college/university. Since these two-year colleges operate under an “open door” policy, generally speaking, only a high school diploma or GED is required for admission. The college will administer a math and English placement test to determine at what level you will begin.
